CORONATION STAMPS.
SPECIAL ISSUE PLAN. i NO GEORGE VT.'S TILL JULY. (Special.—By Air Mall.) LONDON, January 16. The preparation of a special issue of stamps to celebrate the Coronation is being' considered by a committee of experts at the General Post Office. As May 12 is so near, a Coronation issue, if found practicable, would be limited to two or three lower values and to a number that would be used in the course of a few weeks. t Designs for a Coronation, issue of stamps in special colours bearing the head of Edward VIII. had just been submitted for approval when his abdication was announced. Now the task is being started afresh. It will be remembered that there was a special issue of George V. stamps to celebrate the Silver Jubilee in 1935. The plans for the King George VI. Coronation i stamp will probably follow similar lines. In the normal course about six or eight months must elapse between the accession of a King and the issue of the stamps of the new reign, and the first ordinary George VI. issue is not expected earliest.
