FIREMAN ALLOWED BAIL.

PATIENT OUT OF DANGER. As a result of a scuffle which took place in a fehip in port on February 3. a fireman, James Francis Loftus, aged 39, was arrested and charged that, with intent to do grievous bodily harm, he assaulted • Edward Curtis, thereby causing actual bodily harm. When Loftus first appeared in court the magistrate, in remanding him, refused to grant bail. However, this morning Detective-Sergeant McHugh, in asking for a further remand until February 18, said the victim of the alleged assault was now out of danger and the police no longer opposed bail. Accused, ' for whom Mr. Singer appeared, was remanded, and bail was allowed.
