FARMER FINED.
COWS LEFT TJNMILKED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DAKGAVILLE, Friday. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed on ■Tohn Joseph Towel , , sen., slaughterman and farmer, of Darguville, when he appearc-1 i-i the Magistrate's Court vestsrday. before Mr. 0. X. Morris, S.M.. io answer a charge of cruelly ill-treating •20 cows. It was alleged that the herd bad not beeii milked for two days. Fairleigh Marriener, fanner, of Xaumai, stated that when he saw the cows they were obvior.sly in distress; they were bellowing and" tlieir udders were distended. Constable Du Temple said he obtained a statement from accused, who admitted the offence. Accused denied showing cruelty, and claimed that condemned tubercular cows Alexander Crabb, stock inspector, stated that he visited accused's farm on the morning of Xovember 23, when he considered that the cows were not in distress, and he did not know ,vhcther or not they had been milked.
