NEW AWARD.
CARPENTERS AND JOINERS. COMPLAINT BY UXIOX SECRETARY. Complaint is made- by Mr. J. R. Kennerley, secretary of tlie Auckland Carpenters and Joiners" Union, that some of the new award wliieli came into force on December 17. in so far as travelling Mr. Kennerley said that employers complained tli.it they had not received official copies of the award, but he understood that these had been delayed owins to the holiday period. According to the award, he said, a worker who had to travel two miles or more beyond the top of Symonds Street had to be allowed the time travelled beyond that point, and the employer had also to pav the fares. "Many of the men are not sure of their position, while it has been reported that some have been put off their jobs for asking the employer to comply with the new conditions." he said. "The position is that all employers failing to carry out "the conditions of the award will'he reported to the Labour Department with a request that the award be enforced. Tt is difficult at this staire to approach every individual employer, the onus being on the employer as well as the worker to keep the law. A plea of ignorance in Court will not be taken as an excuse if proceedings are instituted."
