DAMAGES AWARDED
FATALITY -ON A BRIDGE. WIDOW TO RECEIVE £1250. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The heurinu of the claim for damages by Margaret Cree Ritchie with respect of tho death of Robert Kennedy Ritchie, who was killed on the pipe bridge over the Hutt River at Petonc as a result of cases containing motor parts falling from a lorry on which they were being conveyed from the wharf to the Ford assembly plant, was concluded in the Supreme Court to-day.
The widow, on her behalf and on behalf of her 12-year-old son, sought £14 1!)/ special damages for funeral expenses and £3000 general damages from the firm of Barton Ginger and Company, carrying and forwarding agents. Xegligence was alleged, in that neither of the two cases, one of which was resting on top of the other, was secured to the lorry. Xegligence was denied, the defendant firm attributing the accident to an exceptional gust of wind. After a retirement of over two hours the jury awarded plaintiff £1250.
