THE FINAL DAY.

MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENTS.

THOUSANDS OF APPLICATIONS

The clerical staff at the office of the Auckland Supreme Court was working at high pitch to-day. Under the Mortgagors' Adjustment and Rehabilitation Act to-day is the final day for the lodging of applications for mortgage adjustments and the main office of the Ccurt was crowded this morning when solicitors and othere were filing their applications.

Well over 3000 applications had been lodged by noon, but this number will be greatly exceeded by the end of the day. Many large packages have arrived by post, and these have not yet been entered up, the staff being busy dealing with personal filings at the counter. It is estimated that the total will exceed 4000. AH these applications will not, of course, come before the adjustment it being expected that in the majority of cases the* parties interested, the mortgagor and mortgagee, will come to some satisfactory a'urreement.

The Auckland City Adjustment Commission has already commenced its sittings, and several applications have been dealt with, but if only a small percentage of the total number of applications filed have to be heard, it will be a long time before all the cases are disposed of.
