SURF LIFE-SAVERS.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM.

ARRIVING ON WEDNESDAY. SPLENDID RECORDS. Certain of a warm welcome from surf life-having enthusiasts throughout New Zealand. ;i team of 13 Australian surf life-savers will arrive in Auckland by the Wanganella on Wednesday. The party will tour New Zealand, going as tar south as Timaru, and giving demonstrations at many of the ocean beachee in both inlands. The visitor* will appear at Milford on Saturday. February "20, and at I'iha on the day following. On arrival at Auckland the party will be met by local and Dominion club officials, including Mr. P. Coira, of Wellington, president of the New Zealand Association; Mr. A. Gardner, chairman of the Auckland Association; Mr. M. Ada mi-, secretary of the same body; Mr. Alex. McGregor, president of the Koyal Life-Saving Society; and Mr. ■!. F. T,angley, secretary of that body. The visitors will be given a Mayoral reception by Mr. Ernest Davis at mid-day. They will leave the next day for the South. and will not return until February 20. Included in the team are men who are prominent not only in surf work, but in other swimming as well. A. Carrier, aged 20 years, is a member of the South Xarabeen Surf Life-saving Club. He is district junior champion in the 440 yds and 220 yds, and champion in the 100 yds. K. Foster (1H), is a member of the Bronte S.L.S. Club. He is champion of his club. Ashur Hart (19), is a member of the Bondi Club. He was junior champion in 103-t and 1!)3.~>, and held the surf teams' championship in those years. Bruce Hodgson, of the North Bondi Club, is a backstroke champion. J. King, a member of the North Xarabeen Club, has the surf teams' championship and also the Western Districts championship. Hector Scott (20) holds the North Districts' 440 yds championship: W. Scott, a member of the Black Head Club, won the open surf championship in l!)3o. J. Scott (20), of the Manly Club, is junior surf champion. A. Fitzgerald (22) is a member' of the Corrimal Club. He was surf belt champion last year, while he is the North Queensland 440 yds champion.

The times in which the team members fan do the 440 yds, the 220 yds and the 110 yds compare favourably with the he£< times in Xev* Zealand. For all three distances the best performance is that of A. Fitzgerald, with 4.51, 2.13 and o9s respectively. The slowest 440 yds time is, however, not slow, at 5.35. J. Miller is credited with doing the 100 yds in 575. '
