Replying to a deputation, which asked for the filling of the gap in the railway lines from Nelson to connect with the southern system nf railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan said there were certain tilings lie had yet to look into before expressing an opinion. One line was at present operating at a loss and many motors were carrying goods in competition with the railways. If the Government was to undertake the linking up of Nelson with the South \ Island system it would have to be assured of 100 per cent of the traffic.
