LONDON, January 8.
Whitehall regards the FrancoTurkish tension over the latter's demand for cession of Alexandretta and Antioch as a first-rate nuisance at this juncture and considers that Turkey has no case whatsoever, says the "Manchester Guardian" diplomatic correspondent.
British opinion is even inclined to think France over-generous in her attempts to meet a baseless claim.
An important meeting in Paris between M. Vienot, French Foreign UnderSecretary, and Fuad Davaz, Turkish Ambassador, is believed to have eased tension over the Turkish demand. Both sides indicated willingness to negotiate in a friendly atmosphere.
Fuad Davaz is understood to have told M. Vienot that Turkey did not intend to denounce the Franco-Turkish Treaty or to attempt to modify, by force, the Statute of Alexandretta.
