TAKANINI HORSES.

PALUSTRE'S PROGRESS

GAY TALKIE RESUMES. '

Palustre is looking very well and will lio in excellent order for engagements at tlia Thames meeting. The Tea Tray filly seqms more solid than formerly and she should be capable of good efforts at coming country fixtures. She has not been over-raced since the season commenced and she should soon be heard from.

Highborn failed to get in th-2 money at Ellerslie, but the going was not to his advantage on New Year's Day, and his failure can be overlooked. The Baralong colt lias definitely improved and it will be surprising if he fails to win a race before the conclusion of, the season. Disturbed, another member of J. Burgess' team, has been temporarily put aside following a disappointing effort at Ellerslie. Burgess' other active member is Silver Glow, a colt by Silverburn—Sundance, who has been growing fast, and his preparation has not been hurried.

A. Walker is working a two-year-old colt by Lapidary—Armutum. who is making satisfactory progress for the short time he has been in work. Known as Lapidarian, this colt's dam, Armutum, is a full sister to Tai Ao, who some seasons ago won several races when trained in Gisborne. Lapidarian is a likely-look-ing sort and will probably make his debut in the autumn.

The local trainer E. Pope is likely to make a trip to the Trentham yearling sales.

Bachelor King displayed good form at Ellerslie despite his failure to win a race. The Lapidary colt is consistent, and one riot far removed from the best class. He definitely claims superiority over Auckland youngsters. Bachelor King is a fine stamp of colt likely to do even better as n three-year-old. Ho may race at the Takapuna meeting, but this will probably depend on the handicapaer's assessment.

Gay Talkie, who was not produced at Ellerslie owing to soreness developing prior to the meeting, is again a regular visitor to the tracks. He has made a good recovery. May Race at Thames. Surella was raced only once at Ellerslie owing to adverse weather conditions affecting the track. Surella ran quite a respectable race in „the Robinson Handicap, but is undoubtedly at his best over six furlongs- In all probability he will contest the open sprints at the Thames meeting, and he possesses the necessary ability to distinguish himself at this fixture.-

The Vaals—Big Bertha colt. Natal," has made steady progress and will be ready to acquit himself well when called upon to make his debut. Natal is a very big colt, and for that reason he has not been hurried in his preparation. _ . Min Lu made her debut at the Ellerslie meeting on the third day, but, as was expected, was not seen to advantage on the soft track. Unlike most of King Lu's progeny, Min Lu does not act too well in soft going, her best efforts on ,the track being when the going was firm. Min Lu, who is a sister to Queen Nona, will do better with experience. Doric Star has yet to fulfil expectations and has been a little disappointing. The Captain Bunsby filly has a doubtfullooking foreleg and it is a tribute to her incntor that she hps stood up to training so well. She has been working satisfactorily and may yet repay her connections for their perseverance. Con Fiioco is to make Tiis next appearance in the Ooldfields Cup at the Thames meeting. He ran well enough in the -A.R.C. Handicap to indicate that lie has prospects in this event, as the company will not be so strong. ' Thangilamba. who met with an injury during her spell after racing last autumn, has made a reappearance. She has thickened out considerably since last season and the speedy Whirlwind filly should quickly return to the winning list _if_ she suffers no recurrence of her recent injun r - Ebb and Flow is going along nicely, and the big son of Tidal will be ready at time of asking. He showed definite improvement on past track efforts prior to the Takapuna spring meeting, but was not seen to advantage on the holding track. He should be capable of earning promotion from the maiden ranks during the autumn. Likely Juveniles. E. Pope has a pair of likely two-year-olds for autumn racing and both youngsters have made excellent progress. Romani, a bay colt by Paladin —Gold Lily, has developed into a fine-looking individual, and although he has not been tested for speed, is an impressive mover likely to gallop fast. Trixie is a brown filly by Appellant—Legation and is the more forward of the pair. She hag shown plenty of speed, and when she gains experience should prove a useful filly. . . . - Three Takanini novices likely to be foen out in the brush hurdle events at tlie Thames meeting are Lady .Ruler, Spearceurt and Precise. All are P r 9" ficient jumpers and should make t heir presence felt. Their displays over the brush fences provided for their schooling indicates that they should not be at a disadvantage over the obstacles to be encountered at Thames. a C. Morse intends taking Wait and Bee to Thames, and the consistent Rosewing mare may have an opportunity to return to the winning list. She is an honest customer who always finishes w ®»\, at the end of her races, but lately her failure to begin well sets her a formidable task to concede such starts to her opponents. A win for her would be popularly received. Inquisitor, from the SJjme stable, is likely to be a candidate for this meeting also. Takanini candidates likely _ to be seen out at the Thames meeting include: f'alustre, Lady Ruler, Spearcourt, Precise, Con Fuoeo, Inquisitor, Wait and Bee, Suiellii. Thurwind and Mia Acra-
