ONLOOKER'S VIEWPOINT.

SOCCER STANDARDS. A correspondent, Mr. T. G. Symonds. writes:—"l read with amazement the statement in to-day's 'Star' under the caption 'Soccer Tourists,' to the effect that leading English amateur Soccer clubs, including those from which the A. and N.Z. touring side has been chosen, show little, if any, difference in standard of play when compared with leading nrofessional combinations. The real position is that the very best of the amateur clubs, and including those mentioned, would find it vet-v difficult, indeed to even draw with a lowlv fliipd division professional side. Proof of this is found in the fact that every year all leading amateur clubs enter for the FA. Cup, and it is exceptional indeed and hailed as a great Performance if one of them even reaches the third round."
