RADIO ORCHESTRA.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS. NEW TERMS ARRANGED. According to advice received by theAuckland Musicians' Union • from the Minister of Broadcasting, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, new conditions of employment have been arranged for the IYA studio orchestra. The conditions are similar to those introduced recently in Wellington, and they come into force as from yesterday. The new terms are as follows:— (1) Preference to unionists; (2) the orchestra to be engaged two nightis per week for a period of three hours each night in the studio or elsewhere; the nights of engagement to be arranged by the conductor with the studio manager; (3) the rates of pay to be £1 .per night for ordinary players, but the special rate now paid to certain p!ayers and the conductor to continue; (4) extra performance nights to be on the foregoing basis; and (5) extra, rehearsal nights of three hours, concluding not later than 11 p.m., should be paid for at the rate of. threequarters of the ordinary payment. - Mr. Savage points out that it is to be understood that the arrangements are to be regarded as temporary and not to prejudice either side in future negotia- . tions.
