The going on the course proper, 45 feet out from the rails, was fast at Te Rapa this morning, when a number of local candidates with holiday engagements were sent along. Several were galloped on the plough, where all pace work was carried out.

Sly Fox and Boughal were associated over three furlongs along the back,, cutting out the distance in 365, after occupying 13s for the initial furlong. Singara, assisted over the first half mile by Whirling, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.25. Jan Ridd, having his first gallop since being operated on for respiratory trouble, dashed over three furlongs in 38s. A smart five furlongs was credited to Orac and Tosh, who negotiated the distance in 1.5 1-5. They ran their first three furlongs in 37%5, and the half mile in 51%5. King Rey was sent alone over a mile and a quarter, running the full distance in 2.17. He ran his first half mile in 56 4-ss, and the first six furlongs in 122%. and the round in 2.4 1-5. Respectful and Winlona were galloped on the plough, running six furlongs in 1.16%. Star Artist was timed to complete a similar distance in 1.20.
