ANNIVERSARY DAY.
REGATTA ARRANGEMENTS
ALTERATION OF COURSES.
Interest in Auckland's oldest sporting institution, the Anniversary Day regatta, appears to be growing as the date approaches, for there was a large and representative attendance of yachting and power boat men at the meeting of the committee last evening. Mr. E. Griffiths presided.
The full programme of 20 sailing, seven power boat and model yacht races recommended bv the sailing committee was approved, but several alterations whicli this committee proposed to make in the courses for the A, B. C and E keel yachts and the If and L centreboard boats were referred back for further consideration. The proposal to limit the age of the skipper and crew of the Z class to 19 years met with some opposition and this was referred back to the sailing committee.
His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Gal way, wrote accepting the position of patron and regretting that it was not yet possible to say if he could be present on the day. The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. .T. Savage, also wrote accepting the position of vicepatron and wished the committee a successful day.
Mr. Ernest Davis wrote accepting the position of president and wished the committee all success and enclosed a cheque for 20gs. Mr. Davis also promised to take up the matter of obtaining one of the warships as a flagship for the public 011 the day with Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R, Drummond, who also accepted the position of vice-patron and promised to do all that he could to help, the regatta.
The course suggested for the seine net fishing boats' race was approved by a representative of the trawling fleet, and 11 suggested mark off Chelsea in place of the pipeline beacon, made by Captain H. IT. Sergeant, was adopted and Captain Sergeant's offer to have this mark laid accepted with thanks.
Letters were received from the POll- - Model Yacht Club nominating Mr. E. Ewen as the club's representative, from the Orakei Model Yacht Club nominating Mr. Roy McKay and from the Point Chevalier Club nominating Mr. H. Burnett, who were added to the committee, also Messrs. IT. M. Green and TJ. Reid. of the Takapuna Boating Club.
Mr. A. Brauiul's offer to donate a special prize for the skipper under l!) who was first home in the Z class, also a trophy from Mr. Alf Williams, were accepted and the donors thanked. As there was every probability that Mr. J. R. Savory, of San Francisco, donor of the 50-guinea cup named after him, would arrive 011 the Niagara next Monday it was decided to defer allotting this cup until next meeting. The finance committee was requested to go into the matter of allotting the prize money as soon as convenient to allow the full programme of races and prizes to be advertised before the holidays. The treasurer reported that funds were coming in more freely than at this time last year. Mr. T. McKay, an old member of the committee, was congratulated 011 attaining his golden wedding by the chairman and Mr."McKay thanked the committee on behalf of Mrs. McKay and himself.
