MOTOR RACING.

NOTED AUSTRALIAN EVENTS AUCKLAND DRIVER COMPETING. The well-known Auckland racing motorist, Mr. G. C. Smith, left by the Awatea to-day for Australia, where he will take part in a 250-mile motor race. He was accompanied by Mr. C. Segetin. Mr. Smith will be racing in the supercharged Austin in which he has so often appeared 011 Auckland tracks, and which j he recently bought.

The race will start from Adelaide on December 20. There arc 29 entrants, and Mr. Smith is 011 a very low handicap. Mr. Smith has always taken the keenest of interest in motor racing, having built several speed cars himself, ranging from the high-powered ones that have been raced on Henning's Speedway, Gloucester Park and Muriwai Beach, to the midget "Tom, Thumb" that has been seen 011 the dirt track at Muri-

vai. He is considered to be one of the j nost capable racing drivers in Newj Zealand, and h is stated to be the first ! iime that a Dominion racing motorist: has gone overseas to compete in such! an event. i A pleasant evening was spent on Saturday at the home of Mr. Segetin to wish Mr. Smith the best of luck in his attempt to lift the 250-mile motor race trophy from the pick of the Aus-| tralian drivers.
