FREEZING WORKERS.
PROTESTS AT HASTINGS. fAN INFAMOUS AWARD." (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, this clay. Exception to the recently-made Dominion freezing workers' award was voiced at a meeting held in Hastings. The following resolution was passed: — "That this meeting of Hawke's Buy freezing workers emphatically protests against the recently-made award, and solicits the support of Dominion freezing workers in an effort to have injustices imposed by the Court of Arbitration immediately removed. In condemning the award we stress the point that the Court has not fullillcd its functions concerning the 40-hour week and the Arbitration Act, nor has it been guided by the principle laid down by the Court in 1927 concerning wages. lii view of tha fact that the Court has not faced its responsibilities nor followed the established policy, this meeting appeals to the Government to set up a commission thoroughly to investigate not only the detrimental effect of this infamous award on workers' livelihood, but also the full and far-reaching effects which outside interests are having on the New Zealand meat freezing industry."
