INCREASED COSTS.
DOMINION INDUSTRIES. MANUFACTURERS' CONCERN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A clause in the demands of gas meter workers asking for a fortnight's holiday on full pay, in addition to eight statutory holidays on full pay, led the employers' agent, Mr. A. W. Nisbet, to remark at a conciliation council meeting that New Zealand manufacturers were convinced there was a Jimit to the extent to which costs could be raided if the industry was to survive. The manufacturers, he said, were living on promises made by the Prime Minister, and so far there had been nothing but promises. Orders were now going overseas to an extent that would astound New Zealand. The workers' representative, Mr. A. Black, said New Zealand industry had never been busier than to-day. Mr. Nisbet: Yes, but wait until after Christmas. Mr. Black: Don't bring Father Christmas into it. All employers arc doing very well and several industries are extending their factories. Mr. Nislict: There will be a different story in a few months unless the Government redeems its promises.
