SPIRIT OF SERVICE.
In an arresting public lecture entitled "Man's Prosperity," delivered at the Naturelle Health Booms, Central Buildings, last evening, Mdlle. Ivybelle M. Brierley, after covering a wide range of human' faults and virtues, concluded by saying that the really prosperous individual, reflecting the ultimate in life, was the person whose progression was marked by love and service to mankind in the truest sense. Wealth was not necessarily measured by money any more than that the latter necessarily implied happiness, for many of the greatest exemplars of history lived and died in poverty, but had made the world richer by their lives and work. However, a3 civilisation advanced a greater Divine trust or responsibility was imposed upon all, who had the power, to help the less fortunate to give full expression to their lives. Success that was not shared was empty-. Those who gained the greatest riches were those who did their duty well without solely materialistic aims and took pleasure hi helping others; thus, stooping to conquer meant doing good. There could even be prosperity in failure if the mistakes and vicissitudes were properly faced. At the conclusion of the address the chairman, Mr. W. A. Gumming, proposed a vote of thanks.
