SYDNEY FERRY DISASTER.
The tragedy which happened to one of the Sydney ferry boats, through an explosion in the engine room, cutting off the ordinary means of exit, should be noted by the authorities. I suggest that it be compulsory for all crude oil burning ships over a certain toimaiie to have a manhole in the engine room 011 each side of the ship above the water line. In the event of an explosion such as that in Sydney, when the ordinary means of exit arc cut off, the men may escape through this emergency. retreat.
