PIGEON FLYING.

RACE FROM TIMARU. Tlie longest distance pigeon race held in Auckland tor several years was flown by the Northern Racing Pigeon Club last weekend from Tiinuru. Eleven members competed, sending a total of nineteen birds, which were liberated at Timaru at 7.15 a.m. on Saturday, and, favoured by -a southerly wind, the three leading birds reached Auckland just before 7 a.m. on Sunday, having covered the 551 miles in just over 14 hours' actual flying time. Only live birds honied in race time, the winner being .Mr. J. Slilels' well known champion Red Logan. Red Logan recently won the race from Christchurcli, has many other long-distance victories to his credit, and lias proved himself the greatest pigeon racing in Auckland at the present time. Bella Vista, winner of second prize, only a moment behind tlie winner, has proved herself an outstanding performer, having previously - flown from Christchurcli three times, and Blenheim live times, but her slow trapping lias cost her several prizes. Buffalo Boy, the third bird, litis flown from Christchurcli twice and Blenhim twice, for Mr. R. Davies, and is thus already a proved bird. The fourth bird, Oakielgli, also had proved himself earlier as a long-distance racer, having won lirst from Wellington and second from Christchurcli. The fifth bird, Pirate, was the only starter, which had previously flown from Timaru, and he has also flown from Christchurcli three times and Blenheim twice. The race was thus a complete victory for tried and proved long-distance birds. Details:— .Air. .1. Sliiels' r c c Red Log,ln, 1154.37 yds 1 Mr. F.
