Customs duty amounting to £301,220 was collected by the Customs Department in Auckland during November. This is the highest figure for any one month since before 1930. Sales tax totalled £84,042, markiiig a record for the .fourth month in succession. The a croregate return from all sources for the eleven months of the year, £4,486,262, is £833,147 in excess of that for the same period last year, and "the total for the month, £464,496, is £97,574 n-rcater than for November, 1935. Tyre duties have also risen, and the total for the eleven months is £500 higher than at the same time last year, while motor spirit tax shows a definite upward trend. The figure for November, 1935, of £45,723, has been exceeded by £11,322, and the eleven months return last year was only £478,722, as against £664,291 this year. Tlio total of £16,034 collected last month from excise on beer shows an increase of £IS2O, and' that for the eleven months, £149,134, represents an advance of £24,650. Comparison of Returns.
