BRAVE SOLDIER.
(By Mary Greijr, IS, Purnell Street, Wangnnui; age 15.) And who shall be brave soldier now, To lead our merry band? We dare not take the windy way, Across tlie stretch of sand. We dare not take the windey way, Where all the dwarf-shrubs grow. We are afraid of hidy-holes At twilight time, you know. So who will be brave soldier now, Our soldier good and true, For "Bogy" is abroad, you know, Perhaps he's peeping through Behind the hydrangea, house. Or perhaps he's hiding where We built our hut last summer, Behind the tall firs there. So, soldier, come, brave soldier, Lead our merry band Along the cornery little paths, Where all the men-trees stand, Along the leafy greeny ways That skirt our little glen. And, soldier, then, brave soldier, Lead us home again. —Original.
