GREY MOUNTAINS.
(By Audrey Beck, Xgatea ; age 15.) The mountains stand at the edge of the plains. Rugged and lonely in the soft grey rains; Proudly aloof and unconquered they stand, Though scarred and gashed by Time's harsh hand. Jagged and broken where the sky-line meets, The ridges arc hidden by the rain that now beats A steady rhythm across the wide plains—A soft grey veil for the brooding mountains. As in kingly silence they rear their heads Above the clouds that rain now shed; And like some great guardian of the plains They stand and watch in the steady grey rains. •—Original.
