FLAX WOOLPACKS.
INVESTIGATION URGED. BELIEFS OF FARMERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this clay. The beUtf that the allegations made agiinst the quality of the. flax wool packs made in New Zealand could not be justified, and that the Government should immediately make a thorough investigation of the whole position was expressed by the Southland Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day. The Government and the Farmers' Union had recommended the use of the New Zealand pack, it was said, and, before that, it had been approved by wool buyers. There was no official information about the nature of the complaints, and there was a suggestion that tliey might have been inspired. The following resolution was carried: "That this executive is gravely concerned about the comments by Mr. S. W. Broadhead, made as a result of experiments and investigations by the Bradford Technical College with New Zealand flax wool packs. As the Government has by regulation compelled merchants to buy one pack in three for distribution among the growers of wool, we feel that the Government should be asked to indemnify users of these packs against any loss. We have recommended our members to use New Zealand wool packs, and are not at all satisfied that the objections to these packs can be justified. We would ask for a thorough and urgent investigation of the whole position by the Government."
