BOARD ALLOWANCE.
FOR COUNTRY PUPILS. METHOD OF DISTRIBUTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Friday. The question of the subsidy which the Government has offered to pay with respect to the cost of board, or the cost of transport, incurred by secondary school children living outside Hamilton, was discussed at a meeting of the Hamilton High School Board of Governors to-day when branches of the women's institutes and country parents' committees wrote seeking information 011 the subject.
A report was submitted showing that the cost of the boarding subsidy to be paid with respect to children attending the school would be £477 15/ per annum, and the cost of the transport subsidy would be £95 17/0, a total of £573 12/0.
The transport subsidy was 2/0 r. week up to five miles, and 3/4 a week f< * distances over five miles. The board subsidy was 5/ a week.
The board decided that all applications for the subsidies should be forwarded through the board, and that the board should collect them and distribute the money to the parents concerned, or to whoever the parents stated should receive the money, whether boarding house proprietors or transport vehicle owners. The headmaster, Mr. E. Wilson, was also askeu to confer with the principal of the Hamilton Technical High School in order to ensure uniform procedure in the collection and distribution of the subsidies.
