TROTTING CLUB.

FROCKS ON THE LAWN. ENSEMBLES AND SUITS. The early morning looked as though it would be a "macintosh" day for lady patrons at Alexandra Park when the Auckland Trotting Club opened its spring meeting, but, as the skies cleared later on and the sun struggled to break through, it was sufficient encouragement for tailored suits and ensembles to appear. Particularly noticeable were the gaily coloured scarves which were to be seen with all styles. They lent colour to the belted tweed coats, and also to the trim tailleurs. Navy blue was a popular colour, as also was grey, but the widest choice was. evident in the costumes of flecked tweeds, which make excellent racing models. Hats were mostly of felt, fashioned in variations of the beret or plain with slight brims. Umbrellas were carried as a safeguard against weather, and looked extra smart when they matched exactly the ensemble they accompanied.
