TAKAPUNA BOATING CLUB.

; i CORNWELL CDP CONDITIONS. A meeting; of the Cornwell Cup Committee was held on Monday at the Taka--1 puna Boa tins Clubhouse, Bayswater. when arrangements were made for the C'ornwell Cup contest to be held at Tauranga, commencing on Monday, January 4. Mr. H. M. Green, commodore of the club, was elected chairman, Mr. ,T. D. Reid secretary, and Mr. R. B. W add el treasurer. Messrs. J. F. MncKay, X. Matlieson and H. M. Green were elected selectors and Mr. J. 1). Reid as delegate to Tauranga. Challenges close on December 11 with the secretary of the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club, Mr. J. Gresham. It was decided that for this and future contests each port challenging must provide its own boat at the place of content. The original rules laid down that boats must be built of heart of kauri. This was amended to allow of boats racing south of Auckland Province to be built of heart of kahikatea instead of kauri, in which event the Corn well Cup Committee shall decide In which manner the difference in weight between competing boats is to be adjusted. A minimum weight liae not yet been decided on. The crews that competed in the last contest, . held on the Waitemata in January, represented Whangarei, Auckland, Manukau, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Paremata, Plimmerton, Christchurch, Lyttelton, Ivaiapoi and Dunedin. It is hoped that the same ports will be represented at Tauranga, with the possible addition of Napier and Timaru. The Auckland crew won the last event after a close contest. THE MODEL CLUBS. The model yaclit racing season will be opened during (he coming week-end with races held by the Orakei, Ponsonby and Point Chevalier Model Yacht Clubs. The Manukau Model Yacht Club and the Birkenhead Model Yacht Club have not fixed their opening day: The sport is making steady progress, and several new boats are ready to try conclusions with last year's champions. The new boats are mostly 3 footers, which is easily the most popular class. The 3-footers won most of the prizes in the last harbour race. They are quite big enough and fast enough for the average junior or senior. ORAKEI BASIN CLUB. The Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club will hold races to-morrow afternoon for club members only, the tirst event starting at 2.30. There will be events for 3-footers and •1 footers and juniors. The entries are usually so many that two heats and a final are necessary in these classes, the racing extending till darkness sets in. On Monday the club's official opening will take place. The first race will start about 10 a.m., and a full day's programme will be carried out with races for 3-footers and ■Mooters, and general handicaps. There will be t the usual races, seven in all, for tlie juniors, which are sailed at the same time, but over different courses, to the seniors. All of the races on Monday are open to allcomers, and already a number of boats from the. other model clubs arc assured. All events will be sweepstakes, with a nominal entry fee. One of this club's most enthusiastic members, Mr. Frank Cloke, will be in town for the week-end, and will be competing in the racing. I'ONSOXISY CLUB. The Ponsonby Model Yacht Club will hold its official opening of the season on Sunday at St. Mary's Bay, for the lirst race starting at 1 p.m. olf the jetty. The races will be open sweepstakes for 3-footers and -l-footers, and a general handicap. Members of other clubs are invited, as the events on Sunday are open to all. Three new 3-footers are expected to make their first appearance in the sport ou Sunday. POINT CHEVALIER CLUB. The Point Chevalier Model Yacht Club will also hold its opening races on Sunday, starting and linisliiug off the sailing club's clubhouse on Point Chevalier beach. As' most of the competitors in this club are juniors, the opening will not interfere with any other club. BIRKENHEAD CLUB. The Birkenhead Model Yacht Club held its annual meeting last evening, and elected officers and committee for the coming season. FIXTURES. October 24.—Inter-club naval whalers' race, eleven clubs competing; Orakei Model Yacht C.'lub's first club races. October 20.-—Ponsonby Model Yacht Club's opening of season races ; Point Chevalier Model Yacht Club's Opening races. October 2li.—Akarana Club's final dinghy races; Orakei Model Yacht Club's races, open to all comers. October 27.—Yaclit and Motor Boat Association annual meeting to arrange fixtures. October 31.—Heme Bay Sailing Club's opening races. November 7.—Panmure Boating Club's opening. November 21.—Official opening of yacht racing season. Combined club races, all classes on Waitemata and Manukau. December 24.—Start of ocean race to Tauranga. December 20.—Tauranga regatta. January 4.—Start of Cornwell Cup contest at Tauranga. February 4.—Start of Sanders Cup contest at Lyttelton.
