PAPATOETOE. At the monthly meeting held recently the president, Mrs. Gimson presided over a good attendance of members and mends. Mrs. Irwin gave a talk on the endowment of motherhood." The competition, guessing the weight of the committee, was won by Mrs. W. Webb. The stalls were in charge of Mrs. Dane and Mrs. Malins, ■? n? talk . on "Australia" was given by Mrs. Milligau. The winners of the afternoon's competitions were Mrs Robinson, Miss Avis Wright and Mrs Barter. AWHINA. . The Awhina Women's Institute held its monthly meeting at Meeting House, Paeroa, Mrs. H. Williams presiding. A ■ competition for scones was won by Mrs. L. Royal, of Koiiiata. A demonstration of flax weaving was given by Mrs. P. Watene, of Kopu. Mrs. Epps gave a talk on institute work, this being followed by two recitations. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alesdames Brown and Harrison. SWANSON. The Swanson Women's Institute celebrated its 10th birthday in the form of a luncheon party, about 180 guests and members being present. Among them were: Miss Mowbray and Mrs. Rickerby, of the Victoria League; airs. Stanley Phillips, president of the Auckland Federation; Sirs. Hunt, and representatives of 10 institutes. Miss Mowbray blew out' the candles and cut the cake. Mrs. Phillips asked those present to stand for a few moments as a tribute of their sympathy with the president of the Swanson Women's Institute, Mrs. Insley, in her recent bereavement, to whom three bouquets were sent from Swanson Institute, Woodhill Institute, and Mrs. Hayward. Bouquets were also ' presented to Miss Mowbray, Mesdames Phillips, Colwill, Hunt, Storey, Beliague, and Rickerby. A pianoforte solo by Mrs. G. Taylor opened the afternoon programme, followed by two sketches by Mesdames Taylor and Close, of Swanson, monologues by Mrs. Webster, songs by Mrs. G. Barton and Mrs. Biuling, of Ellcrslie. The accompanist was Mrs. Lighton. Recitation by Mrs. Wood, and a short play by the Henderson Institute concluded the programme. Mrs. Winter presided.
