LADY BOWLERS.

EDENDALE CLUB'S OPENING. The official opening of the Edendale Ladies' Bowling Club took place at the green yesterday. The president, Mrs. C. 0. Lofley, in .her opening address, said it was a great pleasure to see such a good inUister of players, and extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. On behalf of the lady bowlers, she thanked the Edendale bowlers for allowing them to play on their green. Tribute was paid to the work of Mrs. Nimmo, who has been secretary since the club's inception, and who had put in a great deal of conscientious work, which the members of the club appreciated. Thanks were also expressed to Mr. Nimmo, the ladies' representative to the Edendale Bowling Club. Mrs. Lofley then introduced Mr. Anderton, the member for Eden, to the gathering. In a short speech Mr. Anderton congratulated the lady

bowlers, saying that he could see that this, the first club in the North Island, was a forerunner or many to come, and that he would help them in any way he could. Mr. Annison, on behalf of the Edendale Club, apologised for the absence of the president, Mr. Smith, and said that the members of Edendale welcomed the ladies and were willing to assist them in every way. Mrs. Smith, vice-president, threw up the first jack and Mr. Blaok "father of the club," the lirst bowl. The president then declared the 1930-7 season open. Mr. Harris, president of the Indoor Bowling Association, presented the ladies with a beautiful cup, to be competed for in singles. A vote of sympathy was accorded to Mr. Harris in the loss of his mother, and also to the relatives of the late Mrs. Barnard. Results of the afternoon play were: — Mrs. Loflcy 16, v. Mrs. Smith 3; Mrs. Mclvor 14, v. Mrs. Page 5; Mrs. Young 16, v. Mrs. Mills 8; Mrs. Roberts 11, v. Mrs. McAuliffe 4; Mrs. Dilly 10, v. Mrs. Webster B;'Mrs. Petersoii 7, v. Mrs. De Suza 5.
