I As the dredge of Gillespie's Bench Gold Dredging Company, Limited (South Westland), was closed for seven shifts while new sleeves and corner plates were put on the bottom tumbler and new bushes put in the hanging blocks, the dredgemaster decided not to wash up last week. Everything is now working well. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Maerewlienua (North Otago).—Progress for September: The work on tlie mine was mostly concentrated on the Golden Gullv development. The progress of the tailings through tlie tunnel was very satisfactorv. and it is estimated that 1«0 cubic yards an hour passed through the tunnel." All this material goes over gold-saving boxes, and any values tmtained therein are saved. Sluicing at nutters Gully is now being terminated and work has begun on cleaning up the gutter and the long tail race in that gully. A partial wash-up of the boxes has produced approximately I'.oz of gold, valued at £43 10/, but tiic main quantity which is lodged in the gutter is still to lie washed up. The mine expenditure for the month amounted to approximately i'Sti. The extension money, £121. for October, in connection with the option to London, has been received.
