TEMPERANCE WORK.

The Auckland District W.C.T.U. met in the Temperance room, Unity BuilcU ings, this week, when Miss Head, the newly-elected district president, presided and welcomed the other new officers and representatives. Twenty-five represensatives responded to the roll call. Devotions were led by Miss McKenzie. It was decided that Mrs. Kasper's presidential address given at the recent district convention should be typed and a copy sent to each union of the district. Mrs. Bragg presented a full report of the flower and philanthropic department, which showed that a wonderful social work was being done by most of the unions. The treasurer, Mrs. A. L. Lewis, presented her balance-sheet, which showed a substantial credit balance. In connection with the Licensing Amendment Bill before Parliament, the following resolution was signed by a representative of each union to be forwarded to the Prime Minister and other Ministers:—"ln view of the scientific evidence now available as to the effects of alcohol in respect to motoring and road safety, this convention of the Auckland District W.C.T.U. emphatically protests against the demands now being made for the provision of more liquor licenses on tourist routes and for the granting of 'house' licenses." The following superintendents of departments were appointed at the recent district convention:—Evangelistic, Miss McKenzie; L.W.R., Mrs. J. Williams; L.T.L., Mrs. Tasker Brown; methods, Mrs. Hugh Kasper; notable days, Mrs. Heard; peace and arbitration, Mrs. Hunter; anti-gambling, Mrs. Eccersall; Maori, Mrs. Babbington; moral and social hygiene, Miss McKenzie; "White llibbon," Mrs. Day; scientific temperance facts, Mrs. Didliani; backblocks, Mrs. Morgan Richards; Bible in schools and Sabbath observance, Miss Read; good citizenship, Mrs. Brewer; flower and philanthropic, Mrs. Bragg; educational bureau, Miss Dewar; home meetings, Mrs. Hayr; Y's, Miss Appleby.
