MOTOR RACING.
GLOUCESTER PARK.
IMPROVING THE TRACK,
PROMOTING ROAD COURTSEY,
The New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association is endeavouring to promote road courtesy among its members and motorists in general by the adoption of an attractive slogan that will remind road users of courtesy and consideration for others in the campaign against accidents. This matter was discussed at the first meeting of the new. committee, and it is hoped that an appropriate and striking slogan will soon be found. The committee met on Saturday afternoon at Gloucester Park, Oneliunga, and examined the motor racing track. This was found to be In very good condition, and speeds of over 50 m.p.h. were easily obtained in a fully laden touring car. To preserve the surface of the track and also to add to the appeal of the race meetings, the association is considering the use of cliicannes or artificial corners. These would test the driving ability of racing motorists.
Chieannes are used in most of tlie large track races in England and on the Continent. Two or three barriers of brushwood, bales of straw or even sand are placed across the track about 40 or 50 yards apart and the cars have to thread their way between them. This also demonstrates the braking and acceleration qualities of the cars.
The organising of a motor Concours d'Elegance for Auckland is well under way. This will be the first of its kind in the Dominion, and will be modelled on similar lines to the many events of this nature held in England during the past summer. This type of motor show has become very popular in the Old Country.
