4000 MEN IDLE.
STRIKE AT BROKEN HILL. SYDNEY, September 30. According to a report received here, the principal mines at Broken Hill are idle, 4000 men being on strike owing to dismissal of a man employed at the South Broken Hill mine. The miner refused to work single-handed a new type of machine on which, according to the rules of his union, two men should be employed.
