WORK HIGHLY VALUED
INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS.
EXTENSION DESIRED,
High praise of the work of the Kowhai Junior High School was expressed by Mr. T. U. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, at to-day's meeting of the board., He said it was high time the board moved in the establishment of more such intermediate schools.
At the recent educational conference in Wellington, Mr. Wells added, intermediate schools had been unanimously approved. Since Kovvhai Junior High School was opened in 1924, much excellent work had been done there. The same could be said of tlie intermediate divisions at Whangarei, Matamata, Northcote, Otahuhu and Waihi. In every case, the parents were well satisfied, and in no district where there was an intermediate school did the parents want to go back to the old system. The opinion in all countries where there was a progressive educational system favoured the establishment of intermediate schools. A richer curriculum, increased facilities for manual and domestic training were features of such schools. The board unanimously decided to recommend to the executive that a survey on the lines suggested by Mr. Wells be made. Further aspects of the proposal were dismissed in committee.
