WEEK-END SQUALLS.
WIND—RAIN—HAIL.
CONDITIONS IN AUCKLAND
heavy sea on west coast.
It was a boisterous week-end in Auckland, with intermittent lashing rain squalls driven 011 a blustering westerly wind. 011 Saturday afternoon the wind rose to gale force at times in western districts.
There was a slight improvement yesterday morning and the sun shone between showers; but in the afternoon heavy though quickly-passing squalls swept the city and suburbs at intervals. Hail fell at times and the unsettled conditions continued throughout the night. Drenching showers and sunshine alternated in 'the city to-day.
The west coast presented some magnificent storm scenes yesterday, with spume blown far inland 011 the fieice wind. At the Manukau Heads the sea was breaking heavily for over a mile outside and the bar became unworkable. Breakers whitened the coast for miles to the north and south. The sea over the bar was smoother this morning, and the Kaitoa from Nelson was able to enter the harbour. Since then, however, the seas have increased and at midday the bar was again unworkable. The motor vessel Hauturu is due to-day from Wanganui.
