WEST COAST CONDITIONS
RAIN AND HEAVY SNOW. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, this day. Stormy weather was experienced on the West Coast during the week-end, and for the third time in succession all sporte fixtures on Saturday were postponed. Over Ift of snow at Arthur's Pass completely blocked road communication over the gorge, while snow also dislocated telephonic and telegraphic communication between the coast and Christchurch, and communication had to be diverted through two channels, via Blenheim. The railway communication system east of Arthur's Pass was also disorganised, but, together with the Post and Telegraph Department's systems, communication was restored at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. An unusually fierce thunderstorm on Saturday morning caused damage to the lighting at the port. Temporary repairs were carried out yesterday. No other damage has been reported. Rivers throughout the district are in fairly high flood.
