USE OF REFRIGERATORS.

PROGRESS IN UNITED STATES. The advances which have been made in the use of refrigerating and airconditioning machines for domestic purposes in America were described as "almost beyond a New Zealander's belief" by Mr. R. T. Nay lor, of Auckland, who returned by the Niagara to-day after a visit to the United States to study this branch of engineering. 'Automatic electric refrigerators are found everywhere in America," he stated. "Indeed, it is a very poor home that hasn't got one. Practically every shop selling perishable food keeps such food in a refrigerator. Not only does the household refrigerator cater for the American's fondness for ice cream, iced drinks and chilled salads, but it keeps food fresh and healthy and saves the waste that ensues when bad in hot weather and has to Ce thrown out. . "Air conditioning is not yet so widely used, but most modern houses of the better kind have air-conditioning plants. Modern blocks of flats have airconditioning plants as well as individual refrigerators 'built in' as part of the normal-kitchen-design."
