"FUNDAMENTALLY; UNSOUND." j Stating that the Alexander Mines Com- f pany has paid £5400 in gold duty taxation -since the tax was instituted, the directors state in their aniyinl report:—Gold producers in New Zealand have taken very serious objection to the imposition of the special gold export duty of 12/6 per ounce. The tax is fundamentally unsound, the t:ix being levied on production, which is . universally recognised as an unjust method ; of' obtaining revenue.
