N.Z. HORSES PROMINENT. DESERT CHIEF WINS CUP. MELBOURNE, August 30. The New Zealand horse Desert Chief, who is well engaged this spring, won the Epsom Cup at the Epsom meeting yesterday in striking fashion. Although a long way back early, he moved up _ smartly approaching the straight and, vigorously ridden by Tomison, lasted long enough to stall off a determined challenge by Orford. Donaster, winner of the King's Cup at Adelaide last season, was always handy to the leaders, but needed a run._ New Zealand horses acquitted themselves well in other races. King Colossus was third in the Cheltenham Hurdles, in which Cape Lilock wob unplaced. Gold Bag and Cape Race were unplaced in the Parkdale Welter. Results:— EPSOM CUP of £350 and trophy. BRISBANE, August 30. Pamelue, by Bullhead —Tango Lass, one of the most sensational horses on the Queensland turf, and also very prominent in discussions for the spring handicaps in Sydney, made his rivals look like hacks in the Flying Handicap at Ascot yesterday, winning with the greatest of ease by three lengths from Autobuz.
