RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

WARWICK FARM. GOI/D ROD WINS EASILY. 1 — I SILVER STREAK AND CUDDLE PLACED. V SYDNEY, August 30. Gold Rod started the season brilliantly yesterday by winning the Hobartville Stakes at the Warwick Farm meeting with the ease of a super colt. Although not fortunately placed at the barrier, McCarten took him to the front as soon as the field settled down. Gold Rod opened up a lead of half a dozen lengths and won easing up by two lengths and a half. Gustos was in the picture to the turn and finished fourth, but he ran less impressively than the placegetters, Shakespeare and Bobby. Rob Roy, by Night Raid from Quadrilateral, who was purchased in New Zealand on behalf of the late L. K. S. McKinnon for 1450g5, and was sold recently to Mr. Perey Miller, came from the tailend of a strung-out field to finish ninth. Kinnoull's Display.

Talking, a colt by Magpie from the New Zealand mare Society, downed many good weight-for-age competitors in the Warwick Stakes. Cuddle stayed with Talking in the lead to the turn, where Talking drew away and won very comfortably from the veteran Queenslander, Lough Neagh, who beat Cuddle by two lengths and a half. Sylvandale, who was a clof# fourth, was doing as well as Cuddle at the finish. Silver Ring raced sluggishly and was always near the rear. Kinnoull, who was much fancied, was somewhat of a disappointment, finishing ninth, behind Allunga, Journal and Sarcherie. Peter Pan's half-brother, Brazilian, was second in the Farm Novice, wherein Hands Up and The Athenian were unplaced. Brazilian made a game effort to equal the performance of Peter Pan, who in 1932 dead-heated with Babili in this race. Both Peter Pan and Brazilian were sparingly raced as two-year-olds. In yesterday's race Brazilian made up a great deal of ground, but was unable to overtake the winner, Tuckerbox, who led all the way. The Athenian shaped poorly, finishing tenth. He received a deep cut on his off hind heel. On Parade Fourth. _ Several New Zealanders took part iif the Campbelltown Handicap, which was well won by the Heroic horse, The Marne, from the speedy Heroic mare, Cereza. Silver Streak, third, did the best of the New Zealand team. On Parade finished fourth and Sporting Blood fifth. Sporting Blood made up a lot of ground and came home full of running. Love Song had his first and last race over fences in the August Hurdles. Losing his rider at the first hurdle, he continued on until lie finally crashed into the wing of another and was killed. Distinguished and Rebel Lad, who was having his first run during the weeW, faded out during the running of the Glenlec Handicap. Results:— * CAMPBELLTOWN HANDICAP of £500. Six furlongs.
