TE PUKE ITEMS.

A farewell morning tea was given Mr. and Mrs. Crocker, at Maketu School, recently, before their departure to Rawene District High School. Mrs. Crocker was made the recipient of a crystal vase, and Mr. Crocker of a book. Later the pupils, the school committee and the parents, assembled for a farewell ceremony. Mr. K. Tapsell, chairman of the school committee, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Crocker's work during his term as headmaster of the Maketu School. Thompson Tapsell, captain of the school, then directed a programme consisting of folk dancing, Maori songs and dances, later offering thanks to Mr. Crocker for his work on behalf of the children, and accompanying a present of a solid leather suitcase with an expression of goodwill and best wishes for the future. Ruth Alley, girl captain, on behalf of the pupils, presented Mrs.- Crocker with a beautiful bouquet of violets. On the day following a deputation waited on Mr. Crocker to express appreciation of his interest in the Maori people, and to present to Mr. and Mrs. Crocker, on their behalf, a travelling rug. In addition there were some personal gifts from individuals, a Maori floor rug, a Maori kit, a piupiu, a greenstone pendant, and a present for Miss Crocker. Mr. and Mrs. R. Cleary, of Te Kauwliata, are spending a holiday with the latter's parents in King Street. Mrs. L. R. Mac Donald has returned from a holiday spent in Wanganui.
