DAIRY SECRETARIES.
FORMATION OF SOCIETY.
DECISION AT CONFERENCE,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
PALMERSTON NORTH, this day.
Representatives of districts in every part of the North Island attended a meeting of dftiry company secretaries at Palmerston North yesterday. Mr. A. K. Fyson, of Hawera, presided over an attendance of 25 delegates.
A long discussion took place on a proposal to form a Dominion organisation of dairy company secretaries, the question at issue being whether an industrial union or an incorporated society should be formed. It was eventually resolved to form a society of New Zealand Dairy Company Secretaries.
During the discussion it was stated that in ' some districts secretaries were not receiving adequate recompense for their though in other districts it was evident that secretaries were quite satisfied. It was pointed out that an incorporated society could file an application to the Arbitration Court for an award, which, if upheld by the Court, would be as binding as an award obtained by the formation of an industrial union. It was also explained that the object in forming a society was to improve the standing of the profession as a whole, and tile primary object was not to secure higher salaries, although this was among the first duties of the executive where it was thought necessary. It was felt that the society indirectly would be beneficial to the dairy companies themselves. A committee was appointed to draft rules.
