REGIONAL PEACE.
British Suggestion For Area
Of North Pacific. INSTITUTE DISCUSSION. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, August 28. The establishment of regional peace machinery for the North Pacific area under the auspices of the League of Nations waj suggested by a British delegate to the conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations at Yosemite to-day as a possible solution of the problems which have been discussed there.
The project called for entry into an agreement by the Powers with territory in that area, including the United States, Britain, Russia, France, Japan, China and the Netherlands. Both military and economic sanctions would be applicable against any violator of the Covenant of the new pact.
Many practical objections to the scheme were advanced, particularly from the United States delegates, who pointed out their, nation's rejection of the League organisation.
Others saw the possibility that it would meet Japan's suggestions for a revision of the Nine-Power Treaty.
The discussions closed before the Japanese delegates were given an opportunity officially to state their reaction.
