MISS KAY IS DEVASTATING.

ADELAIDE, August 28. ■ Tie first round of match play in the women's golf of Australia to-day was completed in ideal weather conditions, at the Royal Adelaide Club's links.

Two of the New Zealanders were defeated, namely, Mies P. Helean and Miss J. Horwell. Following are. the results:— Mies Oliver Kay (New Zealand), heat Mi's. Russell (Victoria) 7 and 6. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith _ (New ■ Zealand) beat Miss Bailey (Victoria) 4 and 2i Miss V. Fleming (New Zealand) beat Miss B. Kernott (Victoria) 2 and 1. Mrs. Britten-Jones (South Australia) beat Miss P. Helean (New Zealand) 3 and 2. . ,/ .. Mrs. Negus (Western Australia) beat Miss Horwell (New Zealand) 2 up. Mrs. Clements (New South Wales) beat Miss K. Rymill (South Australia) 3 and 2 Mrs. McKenzie (Victoria), beat Mrs. Bettington (New South Wales) 3 and 1. Miss Hutton (Victoria) beat Mrs. Rabmson (New South Wales) 6 and 4. Miss Kay was in devastating form and was only twice off the fairway. Accurate putting 'on the first five greens gave M'ss Fleming an early lead which Mies Kernott could, not overtake. Otherwise there was little between them. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith was too staady'ail round for Miss Bailey, who had to snix long putts several times to save herself from a terrific beating. Mrs. FullartonSmith dropped only two strokes to b >gey on the outward run. _ There was little between Miss Horwell and Mrs. Negus (the only Western Australian ever to get into match play m .M<s event). Miss Horwell was out of touch with her chip strokes. Mrs. Negus was > l rorig. Miss Helean was only a shadow of the girl who had returned a card of 79 .vesterdraw for the second round, to be plaved on Monday, is as follows: — Mrs. Clements v. Mrs. Negus. Mrs. Britten-Jonee v. Mrs. FullertonSmith. " Mrs. McKenzie v. Miss Kay. Miss Hutton v. Miss Fleming.
