VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB.
33RD ANNUAL MEETING. GOOD CREDIT BALANCE. The Victoria Cruising Club held their 33rd annual meeting in the clubhouse, Fanshawe Street, on Thursday evening. Mr. R. Johnson presiding' over a very good attendance of members and supporters. Before the business was proceeded with the chairman referred to the death of Messrs. R. Henderson and L. Coleman, a vote of sympathy being carried in silence. The report submitted by the hon. secretary, Mr. J. McGehan, stated that the club meetings throughout- the year had been well attended, the racing was successful and all events keenly contested. The inter-club race in the V class, for the Clare •Rose Bowl, promoted by the club, was also carried out successfully, Paroro, representing the Devonport Club, winning the trophy. - As in the past, substantial cash prizes were paid, the total being £48, in addition to trophies. The vice-president's picnic, held at Shark Bay, was thoroughly enjoyed, and boat-owners were thanked for their assistance. Their best thanks were tendered to the patron, Mr. Ernest Davis, vice-patron, Hon. Eliot Davis, the president, Mr. W. L. Casey, also vice-presidents and donors of trophies, for their generous support. A number of boats were hauled out on the club's property, the work being safely carried out by the clubhouse captain and his assistants. The clubhouse and lockers have been kept in good* order, thanks to the stewards and due to the efforts of the hon. treasurer and members generally the finances were in a very buoyant condition—the best for the past nine years.
The balance-sheet, submitted by the honorary treasurer, Mr. Geo. Tylcoat, | showed receipts totalling £354. The principal items of income were: Subscriptions £30, donations £22, locker fees £37, entries £27, hauling-up fees £21, use of hall £23, Christmas hamper £33, special fund received by members £80, and credit balance from last year £49. The expenditure totalled £ 151, which left a credit in hand of £203, the best for many years. , .. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the officers and members on the very successful season, and particularly on the big credit balance which, he said, was the best for the past nine years. Mr. Geo. Mobberley, in seconding the adoption, said the officers and the committee had reason to be pleased with the result of their work. Mr. O. Johnson proposed that, in view of their healthy financial position, it be a recommendation to the trustees that they redeem the final club debenture of £25. Mr. E. Griffiths supported the motion, which was adopted. Officers for 1936-37. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. Ernest Davis (re-elected for the 34 th year); vice-patron, Hon. Eliot Davis; president. Mr. W. L. Casey; vice-presidents, as last year, with the addition of Mr. A. Thompson ; commodore, Mr. E. Griffiths (re-elected unopposed) ; vice-commodore, Mr. E. Culhane; rear-commodore, Mr. J. O'Sullivan ; hon. secretary, Mr. J. McGehan: hon. treasurer, Mr. Geo. Tylcoat; clubhouse captain, Mr. T. Thomson Mr W H. Hawkes: stewards. Messrs. If. Morgan and J. Griffiths; trustees, Messrs. O. Johnson, R. Johnson and Geo. Mobberlev • finance committee. Messrs. O. Johnson Geo. Mobberley, Geo. Tylcoat, J. O. Sullivan and R. Tuohey: hon. measurers, Messrs. L. Tercel and G. Parker; hon. auditors, Messrs. O. Johnson and G. Parker; committee. Messrs. L. Tercel, G. Parker, J. Davidson. E. Fitzgerald, W. Tupp, sen., J Lee, W. Rogers, W. Cronin, R. Tuohey, C Daw, E. Gray and L. Bennett. ' The fees for dinghy spaces were fixed at 30/ and lockers only 10/, with hauling out fees as last year. The annual subscription was fixed at the same as last year. Twelve new members were elected. Air O Johnson said that it would be wise to make provision for a possible move of the clubhouse or a rebuilding fund, now that finances warranted it. He proposed that the sum of £100 be set aside as a reserve. The cotomodore, Mr. E. Griffiths, in seconding the motion, said that while he hoped they would not be disturbed for years yet, the last move of the clubhouse cost £700, and _had been only wiped out last year. The motion was carried without dissent??A small honorarium was voted to the hon. secretary, hon. treasurer and clubhouse captain.
Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, on behalf of the Tamakl Yacht Club, congratulated the officers and members on their very sound position and thanked the club for combining a racing fixture with the Tamaki Club last season, -which was very successful. . . A vote of thanks to the chairman, the retiring officers, committee, with especial mention of the work of the hon. secretary and hon. treasurer, and the Press, concluded the business.
