PENWOMEN'S CLUB.

An Alpine lecture, illustrated by coloured views, was delivered by the Rev. W. Bower Black, at the Penwomen's Club yesterday afternoon. The speaker described the country where the new tourist road is going through, from Lake Wakatipu to Milford Sound. The bush, he said, was very wet, and heavy rainfalls are experienced. Wekas, kiwis, and keas abound, r rid rf-mrding the keas, the lecturer said it had not been proved that they actually killed sheep. They were . interesting and most amusing birds, but very destructive. They enjoyed ripping things to pieces, even boots. The Alpine flora were very beautiful and varied. Acres" and acres of mountain daisies grew on the sides of the mountain, and here was seen also the biggest variety of eidelweiss in the world, and beautiful blue gentians. The Hollyford country was extremely precipitous. a height of fully six thousand feet rising straight up. The engineers were faced with great difficulties in opening up this route, and there was also grave danger from avalanches.

In the absence of' the president, Mrs. Carr Rollett, Mrs. Joljn Barr presided. At the Current Events discussion earlier •in the afternoon, the "following* questions were debated: —''.Problems of ."Adolescence" and "Should Radio be Intioduced Into the Schools."
