SATURDAY'S ROAD RACES. i MANUKAU CLUB. Two road races over the new circuit were decided by the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club on Saturday. A strong wind was a slowing factor on the back portion of the 51 miles circuit. Fourteen juniors competed in their onelap race of 5 1-5 miles. The placed juniors were :— Bill H. Jack McKay was 12s faster than Noel Aulick and was fastest in 15.56. Eleven teams of two riders raced in the senior four-lap event of 21 miles. An idea of the close contest between the two fastest teams is better gauged from the following lap times :— Triner-Riddell, 15.5. 30.29, 45.55, 01.14; Robinson-Wilson 15.25, 30.36, 46.1, 61.15. BEACH HAVEN CLUB. Tim Beach Haven Club held two out-and-home races. Head winds slowed up the times, but good displays were given. The senior race was to Albany and back, a distance of 211 miles. Collins (scr), 17.16 2; R. Fagan (scr), 17.33, 3. Collins made fastest time. PAPATOETOE CLUB. The Papatoetoe Cycle Club held Its Tradesmen's Cup event, which was open to both junior and senior riders. Out of a field of 28 riders T. Hema proved the victor in a close finish with C. Carter and K. Picknell. Three riders broke the previous record of 55.56, held by S. E. Pinfold, Cochrane (scr) reducing the record by 3.4. He rode unpaced over the full 20 miles. Results :— C. Hema (4.30), 57.3, 1; C. Carter (4.30), 57.4, 2; K. Picknell (5.30), 58.7, 3; R. Beehre (2.0), 54.46, 4. Fastest times: C. Cochrane (scr) 52.52, R. Beehre (2.0), 54.46, N. Wardell (2.0), 54.49. LYNNDALE CLUB. The Lynndale amateurs conducted a 131mile out and home senior and a 41-mile junior race, a strong head wind slowing the senior riders on the outward journey to Henxlers'oii. Senior results: — A. Silcock (2.15), 40.58 1 J. E. Baldwin (3.30), 43.20 2 C. R. Gooder (scratch), 40.18 3 W. T. Willis (scratch), 40.19; H. Hawke (1.45), 41.46. Fastest time placinge: C. R. The Takapuna Amateur Cycling Club held a 26-inile' race over the Albany and .ake course for the Farmer's Cup. A great liiiisli resulted;—D. Laurance (3.30), 83.58 1; J. Mollard (5.0), 80.4, 2; D. Keating (scr) SI.IB, 3 ; K. V'osper (8.30), 90.4, 4. Fastest time, D. Keating. LADIES' CLUB. The Auckland Ladies' Amateur Cycliti. Club conducted a six-lap r.ice at theMount Albert course on Saturday. "The handicap place was won Ipy Miss Louis Arrol in 19.40, while Miss Violet Baird made fastest time of 19.10. The placiugs were":— Aliss Louis Arrol (1.15), 19.40, 1; Mis> Violet Baird (scr), 19.10, 2. Miss Bairo got fastest time. NORTHERN CLUB. In good weather, with a light wind, the Northern Club held its 44 miles championship round the harbour. Nineteen riders got away, the limit man being C. D. Lapwood, off 20.0, while the scratch bunch, comprising Byrne, Price, Gamble, left in line style. At Brigliain's Creek Tucker, Rollinson and Wall on led, and at Henderson were still in front from Lapwood, who was tiring. Gamble coming up fast with Price, who had caught up. Rollinson broke away at this point, and maintaining his lead won by 1.28. In the spurt for time Price beat Gamble by a little less than half a wheel. Results : R. Rollinson (10.30), 2h 16m 32s 1 L. The road cycle race conducted by the Hamilton Amateur Athletic Sports Club, from Hamilton East to Rukuliia and back on Saturday, resulted : B. Latta 1, G Forsyth 2, C. Burr 3. Burr's time, 39.45, was fastest. NEW ZEALANDERS UNLUCKY. LITHGOW TO BATHURST RACE. (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 16; The New Zealand cyclists Harry Watson and Les Fleming on Saturday participated in the 86 miles road race from Lithgow to Hathurst and back (130 starters), carrying £200 prize money and trophies. The New Zealanders sustained punctures after going 20 miles and withdrew. The race was won by F. O'Connor (of Griffith), by only live yards.
