OUR MAORI PEOPLE.

The report in last Friday's "Star" of the statements made by the Rev. A. J. Seamer concerning the health and living conditions of the Maori race is very interesting, but also very disquieting. It would certainly appear that the matter is urgent, and that steps should he taken immediately to improve these conditions. It w to be hoped that the Government will not bo slow in fulfilling its election pledgee to the Maoris, as although individuals may try to. do what they can, a definite Government programme is vitally necessary. Most •people are very sympathetic toward.- tli ■ Maoris and would be eager to work in with the Government in any scheme thft would better the present almost hopeless oulloo't of the race. J.lVf.
