BASIC WAGE.
DOCTOR'S COMMENT. LABOUR'S APPRECIATION. Gratification at the fact that a man of the standing of Dr. E. B. Guntion should agree'with the contention of the Trades and Labour Council that a basic wage of £5 0/0 would be a "starvation" level, was expressed this morning by the secretary of the council, Mr. H. Campbell.
Mr. Campbell explained that the council's assessment of what it cost a man. his wife aud three children to live was merely the amount it was thought 110 family should be allowed to live below. It was considered that f(i was nearer the mark to the basic wage.
