ONEHUNGA COUNCIL.
The Mayor, Mr. J. Park, presided at the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last night. Borough Engineer.—There were 32 applications for the position of borough engineer at a salary of £400 per annum. Mr. H. R. Bach, now of Thames, was appointed. Arbor Day.—A number of pohutukawa trees will be planted to-morrow, Arbor Day, on the Manukau 'foreshore. The Mayor will address the school children at 1 p.m. Block Insurance. —When this subject was discussed it was decided to inform the Municipal Association of New Zealand that the council was not prepared to decide what action to take, unless something more concrete is put before it. Tenders.—The council accepted the tender of A. Franchi, at £20, for an electrical installation. Tram Stop.—A suggestion was received from the Mount Roskill Road Board that a tram shelter should be erected at the new tram stop at Royal Oak, where six roads meet. The Transport Board is to be approached with a view to having the tram stop altered at Royal Oak from its present position to the corner of Mount Albert and Manukau Roads.
